As well as wedding planning and on the day coordination I absolutely love organising and coordinating style photo shoots. I am in the middle of planning one for April 2016 so watch this space. Having planned 5 styled shoots so far and had the majority of them featured on national wedding blogs or in local wedding magazines I realised I’d neglected to blog about them myself.
Like the saying goes about not being able to pick your favourite child I can’t pick a favourite shoot as they are all my favourite for different reasons. My first shoot was my favourite as it was my first shoot, my third shoot was my favourite as I completely fell in love with the chosen theme and the venue. The photoshoot at Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower was my second photoshoot and took place in January 2014. It was featured in Issue 44 of Your Hampshire and Dorset Wedding magazine and was my very first shoot to be printed in a magazine.
Portsmouth based photographer Alisha contacted me to help her plan a shoot at Explosion. The only specification she made was the colour scheme needed to include royal blue.
Given the museums naval links styling the shoot with a nautical theme was an obvious choice. It was easy to find plenty of inspiration from naval dress uniforms with brass buttons, braided cord and embroidered epaulettes to decorate the Grand Magazine. Along with naval flag inspired bunting I chose traditional fisherman’s lanterns, mirrored table runners to reflect the light from the room and the flames from the nautical tea light holders, and quirky little nautical props to tie the theme and the colours together. His-and-hers chair covers and coordinating napkin decorations were the finishing touches to an amazing finished product.
This is still one of my favourite themes mainly due to the fact it includes both masculine and feminine aspects. It would be quite simple to pare the Nautical theme up or down depending on personal preference. Thanks to all the suppliers who took part, you were a fab team to work with.
The Nautical themed shoot at Explosion museum of Naval Firepower was featured in issue 44 May/June 2014 of Your Hampshire and Dorset Wedding magazine.
